On a side note, this is the first version built and released with a new piece of software called “DuBuilder” which we will share soon, which eases the final build of Adobe ExtendScripts.
This is the first tool we’ve finished thanks to the latest crowdfunding campaign (and the most nerdy one, which will interest very few people but helps us save a lot more time by automating boring tasks)

The way expressions are built by Duik has also been changed internally, which should not change anything for you but is the groundwork for future awesome new features, and helps the sharing of the expression library used by Duik.

Fourteenth update | 16.2.14

The fourteenth update of Duik Bassel.2 brings a bunch of important fixes concerning the Auto-Rig, the Spring/Kleaner and the Structures, along with some other minor fixes. It is advised to update as soon as possible!

Thirteenth update | 16.2.13

Here is the thirteenth update of Duik Bassel.2 with new fixes for the bugs you’ve found hidden in very specific cases concerning the parent constraint, controller extraction, and the orientation constraint!

Thanks a lot for the feedback we get which makes Duik always more reliable and performant.

Important note: we’re crowdfunding the next big update of Duik, Bassel.3, and a lot of other FREE awesome tools. This new stuff can only be developed if there are enough backers, so don’t hesitate if you like what we’re doing: back it now!

Twelfth update | 16.2.12

The twelfth update of Duik Bassel.2 brings some very important fixes for bugs introduced in 16.2.11 concerning the Kleaner and the Motion trails (very sorry for that!), along with another important workaround for a bug in After Effects affecting the parent constraint and some other minor fixes and improvements.

Thanks to all those who reported these bugs quickly which allowed us to fix them in less than a week.

A small improvement has been made for the “remove expressions” tool too: hold the Alt button to keep the pre-expression value instead of the post-expression value.

Sixth update | 16.2.6

The sixth update of Duik Bassel.2 improves the controllers. The extraction have been improved for duplicated comps/characters, new shapes are available, they can now automatically be inserted in the hierarchy of the layers, and now, when tagging some layers as controllers, they are automatically set to guide layers.

Spanish and French translations have been improved, and, as always, there are a few bugfixes.

Fourth update | 16.2.4

The fourth update of Duik Bassel.2 consists of a great improvement of the Kleaner tool and its “bounce” option, and a few bugfixes.

The detailed list of what’s new is available in the changelog here.

First update | 16.2.1

The first update of Duik Bassel.2 is already available, which fixes several bugs found after the release of Duik Bassel.2

Some important improvements were also made, especially concerning the brand new Kleaner, which is smarter and has more options for spatial properties. It should now behave quite well even with default values.

There were improvements to the UI too. You can now drag and move popups, and you can also pin them so they won’t close if you’re going to need them more than once.

As usual, the detailed list of what’s new is available in the changelog here.

Duik Bassel.2 | 16.2.0

This is the list of the new features and improvements in Duik Bassel.2.
It is not a big list, but we believe the Kleaner and the controller extraction with Master Properties are game changers.

The new Kleaner

Kleaner, the Keyframe Cleaner, in previous versions of Duik, was already quite a nice tool, able to automatically take care of your interpolations and smooth your animations. It now just takes care of the 3 most important Disney animation principles: Anticipation, Slow in and slown out, Follow Through (and this is just a step, you can expect Squash and Stretch and other nice features soon…)

What is really nice is that it does so through an expression. Which means it is completely procedural and you can adjust the settings at any time with a very simple effect!

It also completely replaces the Spring tool, as it has the same features and many more: it’s follow through algorithm does what the spring did, but it does it better: the simulated mode works on any spatial properties. That means you can use it on puppet pins to quickly create a nice soft body wich deforms with the movement of the layer. It is also much faster to compute, which is even better with the new After Effects 2020 and its performance improvements!

Extract controllers with Master Properties (After Effects 2020)

With After Effects 2020, expressions in master properties have been so much improved that you can now use them to extract controllers, and replace the expressions connecting the controllers with them. It’s something which was hidden until now, as the performance was too poor to be usable.

Duik Bassel.2 will extract controllers from precompositions using master properties by default if you’re using After Effects 2020 (but keep expressions in previous version).

That means you can now take advantage of the awesome features which come with master properties when you animate your characters: you can use a single rig in as many compositions/scenes/shots as you like, without the need to duplicate it.

This also means that when you get back into the rigged precomposition, the character is still in it’s rigging pose, as the animation is completely separated from the rig. Making changes to the rig has never been so easy, and any change will be propagated to all scenes using it, even if its already animated!

This makes the animation process in After Effects even closer to what you’d do in a 3D software, which is the core of Duik: bringing advanced animation tools in After Effects, but keeping it easy to use, easier than with this third annoying axis you have in 3D.

A new 3D and tapered Motion Trail!

The Motion Trail has been completely re-built, and now has a taper option and is also able to take the 3D space and layer scale into account to automatically adjust the width of the stroke.

Performance and UI improvements

Last but not least, the performance of many tools have been improved, which is nice with the new After Effects 2020 where the same work has been done!

Also, the UI has been tweaked and a bit re-organised, but you’ll see this by yourself!

You can read the detailed changelog here to know everything about what is changing in Duik!
